What does Intermodal mean in truck driving?
Intermodal freight transport is the transportation of freight in an intermodal container (shipping container) or vehicle and utilizing multiple forms of transportation (e.g., plane, boat, train or truck) without handling any of the actual cargo within the container. What this means to a truck driver who takes on an intermodal trucking job, is that they will be a crucial part in connecting freight between ocean ports and rail or delivering cargo to its final destination. This form of trucking will have drivers on routes between ocean ports, rail terminals and inland shipping docks.
